This year, The Baltimore Sun will celebrate the 5th annual BGE & The Baltimore Sun's Business & Civic Hall of Fame

This program will honor the achievements of business and civic leaders who have spent their careers working to transform and improve Maryland. Nominations for this prestigious award were solicited from the Baltimore Sun readers and winners selected by a committee consisting of our editorial board, as well as the area's most prominent leaders.

We are delighted to present our honorees with a special award at a celebratory dinner at The Center Club on

Thursday, September 10, 2020.

INVESTING IN YOUTH AND THE COMMUNITY

Each year Baltimore Sun Media selects a deserving non-profit to receive a percent of net proceeds from the Hall of Fame event.

We are delighting to have selected  The Choice Program at UMBC for this year's non-profit. The Choice Program at UMBC is a not-for-profit organization administered by The Shriver Center at The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

For 30 years, Choice has  engaged, mentored, trained, and supported Black and brown youth across Baltimore.  An issue at the forefront of the organizations interventions is the disproportionate confinement of  Black and brown youth in the juvenile justice system. The overarching program goals are to disentangle young people from the juvenile justice system and to strengthen youth and family ties to the community.

Choice has expanded to include a variety of different program services to better meet the needs of young people, whether correctional system-involved or not. Programs include school-based initiatives, arts programming, job-training and college and career access.
